Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), the technique on which OxyMon is based, relies primarily on two characteristics of human tissue. First, the relative transparency of tissue to light in the NIR range, and second, the oxygenation-dependent light absorption of hemoglobin. To learn more about NIRS, visit the NIRS theory page.
Measure oxy, deoxy, changes in total hemoglobin concentration and tissue saturation index (TSI) in brain and muscle tissue.

FNirs system
OxyMon is one of the most versatile and fastest NIRS systems on the market. The system monitors a subject's local tissue oxygenation non-invasively using the near-infrared spectroscopy technique. We offer a wide range of fibers, supports and fit-for-purpose solutions to support you in the best possible way and to tailor each system to your specific needs. We offer a configuration that allows you to measure up to 100 brain channels simultaneously with real-time visualization. Our systems have been used for over a decade in hundreds of publications.
OxyMon Applications
OxyMon has been used in almost every imaginable field of research, such as the study of brain aging, the high-altitude brain, functional connectivity, functional testing, and for brain-computer interface (BCI). The system can be combined with other techniques such as EEG, TCD or MRI. We even offer fully integrated NIRS/EEG packages.
CONFIGURATION OF UP TO 112 FNIRS CHANNELS
We offer OxyMon systems from 1 to 112 channels. The 112-channel configuration includes a custom mounting cart and allows you to measure four subjects simultaneously. Our system is built from cabinets. With one cabinet, you can create a maximum of 8 channels. By combining multiple cabinets, more channels can be made. Cabinets can be stacked and used as one large system, but each cabinet also functions as a smaller standalone system.
Software
All of our devices ship with Oxysoft. Oxysoft is our dedicated software application used to collect, store, view and analyze all necessary OxyMon data. This user-friendly software was developed by Artinis and is highly customizable to individual requirements. Oxysoft provides real-time calculation of oxy, deoxy, total hemoglobin and TSI.
OxyMon Fibers
OxyMon's customization doesn't stop at the number of channels or the optode model. To create your ideal OxyMon system, we have a selection of fibers to choose from. Additionally, we've redesigned our fiber tips to make them lighter, stronger and more comfortable for the subject. This makes OxyMon ideal for measuring infants, children and vulnerable individuals. The tip is plastic, which makes all our new fibers compatible with electromagnetic fields. We will always advise you on the type of fiber to use depending on your application. We offer the following optical fibers:
OXYMON HEADCAP
At Artinis, we design and develop our own cap. This helmet shows great improvements over other commonly used NIRS capacitors such as EEG capacitors. Compared to standard caps, it covers the entire scalp and prefrontal cortex, provides evenly divided pressure, freedom of movement from head to subject, and absorbs external light due to its fabric.
