Combine transcranial electrical stimulation (tES: tDCS, tACS, tRNS) and electroencephalography (EEG) with functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) in a single headset.
Starstim / NIRS is the ultimate wireless solution for brain stimulation and imaging.
STARSTIM X BRITE / OCTAMON
The Starstim fNIRS package includes Neuroelectrics® StarStim (tES and EEG) and Artinis Brite / OctaMon, both non-invasive and wearable technologies.
It allows clinicians and researchers to measure resting state and task-related prefrontal cortical activity (EEG) and/or hemodynamics (fNIRS) before, during, and after transcranial electrical stimulation in real-world settings. In addition to the equipment provided, the NIRS Starstim package includes online assistance from Silverline Research on how to integrate these two state-of-the-art devices or adapt Starstim to another neuroimaging device specifically for your research or clinical needs. Silverline Research's expertise can also provide specialized online or onsite training (1-5 days) to integrate tES with neuroimaging (EEG and fNIRS) at every step, as well as other neurophysiological techniques (TMS, fMRI) and applications (cognition, control motor, sports and virtual reality).
SOFTWARE OPTESTIM
OptEStim is an add-on software compatible with Starstim NIC2 and Brite/Octamon Oxysoft software that offers advanced software-level capabilities for brain state determination in an easy-to-use graphical user interface that allows for real-time monitoring and analysis of EEG and fNIRS metrics using the streaming feature (eg peak EEG-Alpha, COG and fNIRS-O2Hbmean), including proprietary algorithms to determine heart rate (HR) and variability (HRV) from fNIRS signals.
The software also provides different open-loop (i.e. standard tES protocols) and closed-loop (entertainment and conditional programs included) programs to run experiments using Starstim tES parameters (tDCS, tACS, tRNS and hybrid tDCS/tACS/tRNS ) using EEG Metrics and/or fNIRS as user-defined thresholds to close the loop. The entrainment closed-loop program allows the user to define the EEG metric (eg, initial alpha peak power) to close the loop; while the conditional closed-loop program allows EEG (eg Alpha COG, Peak Power Range) and fNIRS (Average O2Hb, HHb, HR, HRV) metrics to set the threshold for tES.
This OptEStim software solution offers the simplest and fastest way to start leading advanced brain state monitoring and closed-loop experiments without the demanding software development and training times. Therefore, allowing for faster tES protocol development and pilot testing of protocols for future research and clinical projects. Custom closed-loop programs can be developed for your specific research needs.
CONFIGURATION OF UP TO 112 FNIRS CHANNELS
We offer OxyMon systems from 1 to 112 channels. The 112-channel configuration includes a custom mounting cart and allows you to measure four subjects simultaneously. Our system is built from cabinets. With one cabinet, you can create a maximum of 8 channels. By combining multiple cabinets, more channels can be made. Cabinets can be stacked and used as one large system, but each cabinet also functions as a smaller standalone system.
NIRS FUNCTIONALITY
Number of channels: 8 or 24 channels
Sampling rate: 50 Hz
Light source: LED (2x wavelengths per transmitter)
